LESSON NOTES ON ENGLISH LANGUAGE
Topic: Revision Test I: A Reading Comprehension (A Tortoise and a Farmer).
Duration: 2 periods (35 Minutes Each)
Objectives: by the end of the lesson the pupils should be able to:
(1)Read a given passage fluently,
(2)Give a suitable title to the passage,
(3)Narrate the story of the on and state the lessons derived from the passage.
Previous knowledge: pupils can pronounce some words from the passage.
Instructional Materials: Macmillan new primary English book 6.
PROCEDURE:
Step I: prepare pupils for lessons with the use of a well-planned set induction. Revise pupils' previous knowledge by writing out some simple words from the passage and invite them to pronounce the words.
Step II: Introduce lesson by outlining the tasks/objectives of the day. Lead pupils to their English course book, page I. give them a sample reading in section A.
Step III: Develop lesson by reading section B on the comprehension passage with the class. Let pupils read after you to ensure fluency. Explain the story content of the passage to the class.
Step IV: Develop lesson further by asking pupils to point out some new/difficult words from the passage. Treat words with them, and ask them to use the words for sentences.
Step V: Evaluation: Evaluate lesson and pupils' understanding by asking them to:
1.   Read the passage, one after the other
2.   Give the suitable title of the passage
3.   Narrate the content of the story and state the lesson derived from the passage.
PERIOD III
Topic: A Written Comprehension
Duration: 35 minutes
Objectives: By the end of the lesson the pupils should be able to:
1.   Read a given passage
2.   Provide oral answers to questions drawn from the passage.
3.   Give written answers to questions from comprehension passage.
Previous knowledge: pupils can say a suitable theme of the passage.
Instructional material: Macmillan new primary English book 6.
Procedure
Step I: Arouse pupils’ interests with the use of set induction. Lead them to the comprehension passage: revision test I”. Ask pupils to briefly go through the passage and say the suitable title of the passage.
Step II: Introduce lesson by asking pupils to point out what they like about the story in the passage. Ask a pupil to state the two major characters of the passage.
Step III: Develop lesson by writing out questions I – 6 on the on the chalkboard. Explain to the class the questions and what they are expected to do.
Step IV: Develop lesson further by discussing and answering questions from section B passage with the class.
Step V: Evaluation: Evaluate pupils by asking them to:
i.             Read the passage (Test II)
ii.            Give a written answer to question 1-6.
Mark pupils work and do correction with them.



PERIOD IV & V
Topic: A Reading and Written Comprehension
Duration: 35 minutes
Objectives: By the end of the lesson the pupils should be able to:
(1)Read a given passage
(2)Pick out some difficult words from the passage and make correct sentences with them.
(3)Give suitable title to the passage
(4)Explain the content of the passage and state lesson learnt from the story.
(5)Give oral and written answers to questions from the passage.
Previous knowledge: Pupils can say what they like and hate about their school
Teaching Material: Macmillan New English primary book 6
PROCEDURE:
Step I: stimulate pupils’ interest for the lesson by asking them what they learnt from the last passage read. Revise their previous knowledge by finding out what pupils like and hate in their school.
Step II: introduce the day’s lesson by engaging pupils in the pre-reading activities on page 6 of their course book. Ask pupils to carefully look at the pictures in the page and elicit some comments from them.
Step III: develop lesson of reading and narrating the story of the passage with class. Suggest the possible theme of the passage. Guide pupils to pick out some difficult words and treat them with the class. Ask them to make correct sentences with the words.
Step IV: develop lesson further by ensuring pupils participation. Invite two pupils to the front of the class and guide them to act the passage. Let class watch and listen to their debate. Ask the class for their comments and observation. Write out the questions from the passage on the chalkboard and explain same to pupils.
Step V: Evaluation: Evaluate lesson by asking pupils to:
(i)          Read the passage " Lekan visits the village school on holiday."
(ii)         Make sentence with new words
(iii)        Give suitable title to the passage
(iv)       Explain the content of passage and state the lesson learnt from the story.
(v)        Give to oral and written answer to questions.
PERIOD VI & VII
Topic: stress, intonation practice and pronunciation
Duration: 35 minutes
Objectives: By the end of the lesson the pupils should be able to:
1.   State the meaning of stress and intonation
2.   Pronounce correctly the given words
3.   Practice the conversation on page 11.
Previous knowledge: pupils can pronounce some simple words like; come, play; digital, etc.
Instructional material: Macmillan new English primary book 6
Procedure:
Step I: Arouse pupils' interest through the use of set induction. Revise their previous knowledge by giving them the following words to pronounce: come, play, digital, etc.
Step II: Introduce lesson by outlining the day’s objectives on the chalkboard. Explain to them the meaning of stress and intonation: stress is an extra force used when pronouncing a particular word or syllable, while intonation is the rising and falling of the voice in speaking.
Step III: Develop lesson by explaining the use of stress and intonation. Engage pupils in the pronunciation and reading of the underlined words on page 13 of their English course book, observe the use of stress and intonation. 
Step IV: Develop lesson further by guiding pupils on the use of stress and intonation. Give pupils some examples using these questions? What are you doing? What are you looking for? Etc. Lead pupils to page 11 and practice the conversation there with them.
Step V: Evaluation: Evaluate lesson by asking pupils to:
(i)          State the meaning of stress and intonation.
(ii)    Pronounce correctly: come, love, work, comb, colleague, church, etc
. (iii)  Practice conversation in page ii, pair yourselves in groups.
Assignment
Pupils should read lesson 2 on the page: and find out the difference between statement A and B.
